A Little About Me...My name is Stephen Starkey and I'm a designer / architect from Waynesville, Ohio. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors of Architecture; and in 2012, I received my masters degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. My graduate thesis concentration centered on the relationship between film and architecture and ultimately how architects can use other forms of artistic expression to inform and improve the overall design process.
The term space, used and overused and misused time and time again, is the essence of both film and architecture. It has different connotations in both, and yet both attempt to capture it. Whether in film or architecture, the use of narrative can provide structure to the experience encountered as the viewer moves through space. Through my thesis study and my continued exploration of the relation between these two professions, I am interested in analyzing the visual techniques used in film in order to better understand how to manipulate space in my own designs. Furthermore...In addition to my architectural studies, I am also a passionate freelance photographer and graphic designer. In my free time, I am also the Creative Director for the The Pride, an FC Cincinnati supporters group, and spend a lot of my free time assisting them in creation of all manner of graphics, shirts, scarves and other merchandise..
